Reynolds re-signs for next season
Fri 04, 2010 11:42
Although Whitley Warriors have yet to end the current season, coach Simon Leach last night started putting together his side for the 2010/11 campaign when he announced that leading scorer Adam Reynolds would be back at Hillheads in September.
“I’m delighted Adam has agreed to stay with us for another season,” he said, “we’ve spoken to quite a few of the squad in the last week or so and it’s great to be able to announce that the leading scorer in whole of the English National League North will once again be wearing a Whitley shirt.
“It’s sometimes hard to keep your better players when you are successful, as we have been this season,” Leach added, “because there are always clubs in higher divisions looking at your squad, but it’s a huge boost ahead of our vital play-off game with Sheffield on Sunday, that we already know Adam is committed to coming back.”
Reynolds joined the Warriors after a grand slam winning campaign with Peterborough Phantoms in the English Premier League and had no hesitation in signing on for a second season.
“It was an easy decision to make really,” he said, “Simon signed me on the word of a couple of people he knew, so it’s good to repay him by agreeing to come back.
“I’ve enjoyed myself immensely,” he added, “but logging all the ice time I have has a bit of a shock at the start of the season and I soon found out I was not as fit as I thought; but it’s been a great season with a bunch of good lads, and great supporters, and now – after winning the league - we have to go out and capture the play-off trophy as well, to round things off in style.”
With his leading scorer already signed up, Leach now turns his attention to other players and is confident that there will be more news very shortly.
“I hope to have more players committing in the next few days,” he confirmed, “a couple of them have verbally agreed tonight, so I’m really happy the way things are going already; and expect to have most of the players I want signed up by the time this season ends.”
The Warriors, who won their opening play-off game away to Blackburn last Sunday, are in action at Hillheads on Sunday night when Sheffield Scimitars are the visitors for a 6.30pm face-off.
Tickets, priced at £7 for adults and £5 for children & concessions, can be purchased on the night.
