Warriors started their 2014/15 season positively on Saturday evening as Whitley were able to skate to a 7-4 success against Kirkcaldy Kestrels up in Scotland.

Warriors were able to travel north with a strong roster of players which included a number of youngsters such as Callum Queenan, Kyle Hindmarsh-Ross and Liam Smedley and Whitley coach Simon Leach gave all of his players ice time. Warriors’ summer signings Dan Pye, Alex Lawson and Dean Holland all took part in the game.

Whitley’s Harry Harley grabbed the game’s first goal on 15 minutes when he netted a powerplay marker. Warriors extended their lead shortly afterwards when Jordan Barnes fired home after being set up by Martin Crammond and Alex Lawson.

Kirkcaldy fought back early in the second period and tied the game up at 2-2 before the 30 minute mark. Warriors then upped their game and thanks to strikes from Daniel Murdy, DJ Good and Adam Reynolds, Whitley held a 5-2 lead after 40 minutes of hockey.

Both sides continued to create openings in the third period and four goals were equally shared between the two sides with DJ Good and Harry Harley grabbing Whitley’s goals.

Warriors supporters can see their side in action on home ice for the first time this season on Sunday (31st August) when Whitley take on Aberdeen Lynx in a match up that faces off at 5pm at Hillheads Ice Rink.
