Whitley Warriors got their 2015/16 season off to the best possible start with a resounding 8-0 victory away from home against the Kirkcaldy Kestrels up in Scotland in a challenge game on Saturday evening. Warriors were missing some of the more senior players from their line up however this gave player coach Longstaff the opportunity to ice some of the clubs up and coming players in this challenge game against the Kestrels.

Warriors summer signing Andre Payette was at the top of his game as the experienced Canadian power forward was able to grab two goals and also impress those in attendance with his all round game play. Other Whitley players who were amongst the points were Jamie Tinsley and Martin Crammond while skipper Tinsley also dropped the gloves when tempers frayed between the 2 sides during the match up.

Whitley fans have the opportunity to see their side in action on Sunday (23rd August) when Kirkcaldy travel down to the north east for the 2nd challenge game between the 2 sides. Face off is scheduled is take place at 7pm for what will be David Longstaff’s first home game as player/coach of the Whitley Warriors and it would be great to see a bumper crowd for the first Warriors game at Hillheads in the 2015/16 campaign.
