Warriors youngster claims Bronze in World Championships

Whitley Warriors young forward Callum Queenan was part of the GB under 18’s squad that claimed the bronze medal in Division 2 A of the World Championships in Tallinn, Estonia last recently. Warriors Head Coach Simon Leach was also part of the GB party as he is assistant coach to Solway Sharks Martin Grubb for Britain’s under 18’s.

Callum appeared in all 5 of the games Britain played in the Championships as GB claimed regulation time victories over both hosts Estonia and Croatia and a penalty shots success against Holland which secured the bronze medal for the British youngsters on the last day of the tournament. During the tournament Callum was able to tally a plus/minus  rating of plus 1 while he was able to have 4 shots on the oppositions goal.

GB forward Glenn Billing who is part of the Okanagan Hockey Academy based in the UK was chosen as the top British player by the coaches of the other teams in the Championships while Britain’s top points scorer in the championship was Michael Stratford who is also part of the Okanagan Hockey Academy as he was able to score 4 goals and assist on a further 2 strikes for Britain.

On returning home from the World Championships there was further good news for Callum as he has been shortlisted for the Pro Hockey News NIHL North Division 1 Player of the Year alongside Whitley teammate Ben Richards and Solway Sharks teenage forward Duncan Speirs. The winner will be announced on Saturday 11th April at the NIHL North Championship Play Offs in Dumfries.
