Whitley Warriors are delighted to welcome back last season’s Hillheads Player of the Year Kyle Ross for the 2023-24 campaign.

25-year-old Ross began his junior ice hockey career with Newcastle Vipers before switching to Whitley Tomahawks in 2010. In his third season with the Under 16s outfit, he progressed to fulfil the role of alternate captain, achieving 22 points in 17 league games, in addition to icing for the Braves. In his 2013-14 campaign, Ross made his senior debut with the Warriors as a forward, making a total of 21 appearances in which he recorded his first goal and assist for the side.

After another two seasons with the Warriors, Ross made the decision to leave Whitley for CPJHL outfit Norwood Nemesis in Canada, racking up 11 goals and 22 assists in 39 league games before returning to Hillheads in the season that followed. Ross goes into his ninth season at the club after a notable campaign in 2022-23 resulted in him being voted Hillheads Player of the Year by Warriors supporters.

Not one to rest on his laurels, Ross is looking forward to progressing his game. “I’m sure we can all learn something from Tony and help us all develop,” he told us.

Head Coach Tony Hand said, “I’ve heard good things about Kyle and I am looking forward to working with him in the coming season and for him to contribute goals to the team.”
