D-man Reid swaps Chieftains for Warriors

Ethan Reid signing for the 2024-25 season

Whitley Warriors are delighted to announce the signing of 21-year-old defenceman Ethan Reid from NIHL South 1 side Chelmsford Chieftains.

Reid began his hockey career in 2014 with North Ayrshire Predators before moving to Murrayfield in 2015 as an Under 16. After four strong seasons with Murrayfield Under 16s and Under 20s, scoring 63 goals and 60 assists in 48 appearances while also appearing at Conference level for Scotland on 20 occasions, he was called up for GB duty at Under 18s in 2018-19. He made his SNL Racers senior debut in the same season, racking up 7+13 in 16 games in regular season.

Warriors fans will remember Reid from the 2019-20 NIHL North 1 Cup, where he iced for Murrayfield Racers both at Hillheads and at Murrayfield. He will continue to wear his favoured #43 shirt for Warriors.

Reid made the move south to join Chelmsford Chieftains after the Covid hiatus then made the jump to NIHL National with Raiders. Returning to Chieftains last season, he bagged 4+13 from 29 appearances, with Chelmsford ending the season on a high as NIHL South 1 Britton Play Off Champions.

“After a good 3 years down south, I’m looking forward to coming home, playing for the Warriors and working under Tony and Willie,” Reid said earlier this week. “Having worked with them both at the Racers I’m familiar with how they do things, so when I spoke to them it was a no brainer. I’m looking forward to getting started and playing with the same passion shown by the fans week in week out. See you all in September!”

“I’ve worked with Ethan before and know exactly what we will get,” Head Coach Tony Hand told us. “He is a good skater, he’s calm on the puck and can pick out a pass. and will be a great addition to the team. He has good experience both in the GB set up, playing both sides of the border and in the National League.”

Welcome to Whitley Warriors, Ethan!
