Whitley Warriors can confirm today that Latvian import Rolands Gritāns has left the club.

Rolands, who joined Warriors in the 2018-19 season as a defenceman, had been playing as a forward this season but had been plagued with issues around working schedules. It became apparent to the club management some time ago that Rolands wasn’t happy at Whitley Bay, which led to crunch talks with them last week. As a result of these talks, Rolands decided that his time at Whitley Warriors had come to an end.

“It’s a shame that it’s come to this,” said Warriors General Manager Paul Matthews. “We’re looking to build a club of players that want to be here and want to play for the club. We want everyone to be pulling in the same direction and unfortunately in the case of Rolands that just wasn’t happening and he has decided to leave.

“We wish Rolands all the best for the future.”
