Whitley Warriors are delighted to announce the signing of 22-year-old defenceman Josh Hodgkinson.

Hodgkinson is from Belfast in Northern Ireland and came through the Giants’ youth programme. He represented Great Britain at U18 before jetting off to Minnesota, USA for a season with New Ulm Steel of the NA3HL. On his return he iced with the Belfast Giants’ SNL side before moving to Leeds Knights last season, where he helped the Yorkshire side to Planet Ice NIHL National Division silverware.

Hodgkinson, who is current Warrior Adam Robinson’s step-brother, is relishing the opportunity to play for Whitley Warriors. “I’m excited to be joining the Warriors for the season,” he told us. “I’ve heard some great news from past and current players. Being coached by Tony before, I know exactly what to expect. I’m looking forward to getting on the ice with the rest of the guys and seeing what we can achieve.”

Head Coach Tony Hand said, “I’ve worked with Josh in the GB set up and have always been impressed with him. He played in the championship-winning Leeds team last year and I’m glad we have been able to bring him to Whitley Bay.”

Hodgkinson will wear the number 73 shirt and is available immediately for Own and Loan and Player Sponsorship.
