Whitley Warriors are delighted to announce that Canadian forward Phil Edgar will return to the roster for the remainder of the 2023-24 season.

From Kitchener, Ontario, Edgar started out in his hometown’s junior system, icing for the Rangers’ Under 16s and Under 18s sides before progressing to play for Kitchener Dutchmen in the GOJHL in his 2009-10 campaign.

After playing for Kitchener for two further seasons, accumulating a total of 67 points in 87 league games and finishing his 2011-12 season as the side’s top points scorer, Edgar embarked on three seasons in the EOJHL with Ottawa West Golden Knights where he fulfilled the role of alternate captain in his third campaign, contributing 70 goals and a further 67 assists in 111 league games.

A move to Whitley Warriors from the University of Waterloo in 2017 then saw Edgar continue his excellent points production, with 56 points from 34 games in his first season on Tyneside. He once again links up with Dean Holland whose re-signing was announced yesterday. A prolific scoring unit, Edgar and Holland trousered 160 points between them last season.

“I’m very excited to get back to England and re-join the Warriors,” Edgar said. “With a few games left in the season I think if we find some momentum we can make a real push in the playoffs. I’m looking forward to seeing the guys and meeting new team mates and I want to thank Tony for giving me this opportunity.”

Head Coach Tony Hand was complimentary about Edgar: “Phil is a quality import in this league and we have been in touch all year. He had decided to stay in Canada but due to a change in circumstances he was able to return to the UK and he contacted us to say he wanted to rejoin the Warriors. I believe he will be a real asset.”

Edgar will fly to the UK at the beginning of February and will play his first games against Sheffield and Solihull on the weekend of the 10th/11th. Whitley Warriors would like to thank Boiler Safe and Rok Box Gym for agreeing to sponsor Phil and help make this happen.

Welcome back Phil!
