Record-breaking Canadian forward Iain Brown makes the move to Warriors

Forward Iain Brown signs for the upcoming 2026-27 season

Whitley Warriors are delighted to announce the signing of talented Canadian forward Iain Brown from Billingham Stars.

25-year-old Brown hails from Ontario, Canada and came through the Eastern AAA Hockey League (ETAHL) with Clarington Toros and Peterborough Petes before moving on to the Provincial Junior Hockey League (PJCHL), spending time with Port Hope Panthers, North Kawartha Knights and Frankford Huskies.

He moved to the UK in 2023 to join his cousin, a certain netminder by the name of Thomas Brown, at Billingham Stars. After recording 39 points from 26 games in his first season in NIHL 1 North, his second season was a standout, notching 103 regular season points – 35 assists and 68 goals, a league record for goals at the time. Brown was instrumental in Stars’ winning season of 2024-25.

Brown, who will wear the #91 shirt,  is relishing the move to Tyneside. “I’m excited for this new challenge and the opportunity to contribute to bringing some silverware home,” he said. “The chance to work alongside someone like Tony is invaluable, and I look forward to learning from his experience.”

Head Coach Tony Hand knows exactly the kind of player Brown is.  “I believe Iain can be a real asset to the team and brings energy, speed and goals.,” he said. “He can be a big player for us this season.”

Cousin Thomas Brown also had a few words for Iain: “I’m very excited with another opportunity at playing with Iain! It’s not everyday you get a chance to play with the guy you grew up with, it’s shaping up to be a special season and I’m so happy he’s going to be a part of it.”

Welcome to Whitley Warriors, Iain!
