Whitley Warriors are delighted to announce the re-signing of versatile player Matty Betham.
22-year-old Betham is Maroon and Gold through and through having only played for Whitley Bay, starting in 2016 with the Under 15s. By 2018 he was named Under 15s alternate captain, a role he would reprise in 2021 with the Under 18s. He made his senior debut the same year and has built on his talent since. Last season he settled into a defence role but is equally effective around the net. Being awarded Most Improved Player last season was testament to his hockey progression.
“I’m excited to see what this group can do,” Betham said. “I’m excited to get back and seeing how much more I can improve my game. It’s going to be be good getting back and pushing for silverware again.”
Head Coach Tony hand “Matty was my most improved player last year and the one that never missed a game, Matty loves to play and will play forward or defence for us. I think he did a tremendous job on D and I think this is where he can stake a claim for more ice.”
