Warriors celebrate superb road success

Whitley Warriors travelled down to North Wales on Sunday evening to take on Division 1 newcomers the Deeside Dragons. Whitley travelled with a strong squad of players though Joe Stamp and Harry Harley were both unable to make the trip however the likes of DJ Good, Shaun Kippin, Dan Pye and Callum Watson were all able to take to the ice.

The opening period of play saw both sides net on 2 occasions with Warriors Player/Coach David Longstaff grabbing both of Whitley’s goals in the opening stanza of action. Whitley took control of proceedings in the 2nd period as goals from Shaun Kippin, Dan Pye, Dean Holland and Callum Watson saw Warriors lead 6-2 when the 2nd intermission was taken slightly early after Warriors Liam Brown had taken a puck to the face.

Once the action got back underway Warriors were able to continue their free scoring ways as Whitley grabbed a further 5 goals through Shaun Kippin (2), Callum Watson, Lawson Glasby and Andre Payette. Dragons also added another 2 goals of their own which saw Warriors claim an impressive 11-4 victory after 60 minutes of competitive hockey.

Callum Watson was selected as Warriors Man of the Match for an energetic display while James Parsons was chosen as Dragons best player on the night. Shaun Kippin also had a great game for Warriors as the popular forward netted a hatrick of goals while also picking up 2 assists.

Whitley are in action on home ice this coming Sunday when the Sutton Sting visit Hillheads in a NIHL North Division 1 league encounter which faces off at the usual time of 5pm.
