Warriors prepare to cross the border to face Sharks

Whitley Warriors sole game this weekend is an away fixture against the NIHL North Champions the Solway Sharks in Dumfries on Saturday evening. Warriors have faced Solway once in competitive action this term going down to a narrow 7-5 home defeat around a fortnight ago so Whitley will be keen to come out on top against Sharks this coming weekend.

Solway currently top the division with a total of 20 points from the 12 games they have played, Warriors are fourth in the table with 12 points from the 10 games they have taken to the ice in making this Saturdays game a crucial contest for both sides. Sharks will be looking to consolidate their position at the top of the league while Warriors will be aiming to close the game between themselves and Solway at the summit of the standings.

So far this season Warriors have picked up 3 positive results from their 5 away games with a victory at Telford and away points against Manchester and Sutton while Solway’s home record is very strong as they have won all 5 of their league games at their Dumfries base known as the ‘Sharktank’.

Warriors captain DJ Good shared his thoughts ahead of this weekends game between two of the top teams in the Moralee Conference.

It’s going to be an interesting game and I think we are going into the game as slight under dogs but we are looking to cause an upset.

“We are coming off two defeats (against Solway and Billingham)that both went down to the last few seconds so everyone seems that bit more motivated to raise our game and finish these games off where we have been playing teams and gotten a couple of goals up.”

Following their away trip to Scotland which is Whitley’s 2nd away game in succession Warriors are back in home action next weekend on Sunday the 1st of December when Whitley host the Sheffield Spartans in NIHL North Moralee Conference match up at their Hillheads home with face off being scheduled for 5.00pm.

Spartans got the better of Warriors when the 2 sides met back in September at Ice Sheffield by 5 goals to 3 which was Whitley’s only competitive defeat in the opening 2 months of the campaign. Warriors have a solid home record and will be looking to get the better of Spartans when Simon Leach and his side return to action at Hillheads after 2 weekends on the road.
