Warriors go back on the road to face Sutton

Following successive home games Warriors are on their travels this weekend when they make the journey south to Ice Sheffield on Sunday to face the ever improving Sutton Sting. Whitley are hopeful that hard working centreman Jamie Tinsley will be back in their line up after he missed out last weekend due to a groin injury.

Senior netminder Richie Lawson is also likely to come back into the side after missing last Sunday’s superb 4-3 victory over the Blackburn Hawks at Hillheads. Both DJ Good and Adam Reynolds netted braces in that game and below both players reflect on last weekend’s game in which Warriors came back from 3-0 down to a claim a last gasp 4-3 success over the NIHL North Play Off Champions.

DJ Good – “

It was an amazing win and one of the best I’ve ever been part of. We were missing some top players and were unlucky not score earlier in the game but the team just seemed to have a belief and kept going and going right until the end. The league is so tight this year that a win means so much more and to snatch the win with 5 seconds remaining was the happiest I’ve ever been to get a goal. The atmosphere from the crowd was such a good experience it really took me back to being a kid when I used to watch the Warriors play in front of big passionate crowds in the Heineken era.”

Adam Reynolds – “

Last week was a massive win for us as it was our last home game till the New Year. All the boys dug in deep and believed we could come back and after we scored the first Hawks started to fade and we got on top of them and it was an amazing feeling to be on the winning side of a last second winner in contrast to the game at Billingham. Everyone played awesome on the night.”

The 2 players also shared their opinions on this weekend’s clash against the Sutton Sting.

DJ Good – “

Warriors have really developed this campaign and we look set to finish the season strongly. However Sutton will be a tough game but we just need to keep developing the way we have been and start getting more points away from home.”

Adam Reynolds – “

Sundays trip to Sutton will be a tough one as they have a decent side and have started to pick up points more regularly now and as our last trip (to take on the Sting) showed we can’t switch off as they will come back into the game if given the opportunity.

A victory for Simon Leach’s side this weekend would be a great boost for Warriors play off hopes as Sutton along with Whitley will no doubt be two of the NIHL North sides who will be fighting it out for a top 4 berth come the end of the regular season in order to secure their spot at the Championship Play Off weekend at Solway in April.
