Warriors thank fans for their support but try to quash fears

Whitley Warriors would like to thank all of its supporters and members of the general public who have shown their support in favour of Whitley’s home ice rink Hillheads remaining open for the significant future following reports that the land the rink sits on may be earmarked for development.

However it does have to be remembered that the council are currently looking at over 100 sites on North Tyneside that could be re-developed and the Hillheads area (where the rink is situated is just one of these sites). Hillheads has not been be chosen by the council as its preferred choice or even been put on a shortlist at this moment in time.

For the rink to be under direct threat Hillheads would have to be the council’s chosen site and then the land would have to be acquired by the council from the current owners so at this moment in time the proposal is in its infancy.

Once any further information is available Warriors will release a further statement. However fans can show their support by signing the online petition on the link below or by writing to North Tyneside Council.
