Whitley Warriors are delighted to announce the signing of forward Ross Murray from Solway Sharks.

25-year-old Ross has played his entire British hockey career with Solway Sharks, his only other teams being Vaughan Wild, Sturgeon Falls Lumberjacks and Temiscaling Titans of Canada’s GMHL between 2010 and 2013. He has been an alternate captain at Sharks since 2017-18 and was also coach of the SNL’s Solway Stingrays last season. He brings skill, strength and experience to an already solid roster of forwards.

Ross, who will wear the number 90 shirt, spoke of his decision to come to Whitley. “I’ve been a part of the Solway team for ten years but I felt it was time to move on and have a new challenge, also experience new things. When Paul Matthews phoned and started telling me what the Warriors’ goals are and how the club works, it sounded like a perfect fit for me. I’ve always loved playing in Whitley and the atmosphere the fans make, I thrive on it.”

“Looking at what other teams are doing, I definitely see Warriors going for every bit of silverware this season and I’m excited to be a part of that and hopefully help to win it all. I can’t wait to get going and hopefully the fans will get behind me and treat me as one of their own.”

“After discussions with Ross we knew he would be a great fit to our team,” general manager Paul Matthews said. “His style of play suits the Warriors, he enjoys playing at Hillheads and I know he will become another fan favourite. Ross is a winner, he has won many titles with Solway and at twenty-five years old, he is still relatively young but he has great experience in our league and that can only benefit us for the season ahead.

“Not only is he a solid, hard working player, he is a smart hockey player who generates good stats season after season, we are all really excited that he has chosen to sign for the Warriors.”

Welcome to Whitley Warriors, Ross!
