Whitley Warriors are delighted to welcome versatile ice hockey player Adam Wood to their roster for the 2021-22 season.

With the ability to play as a forward or as a defenceman, 31-year-old Wood started his junior ice hockey career in Cardiff and after a season away from the sport, made his senior debut with the Devils’ ENL team in 2009, notching 6 goals, 4 assists and 173 penalty minutes in 16 league games in his first campaign.

After playing two more seasons for the Devils either side of a second break from ice hockey, Wood switched to Streatham in 2014 and collected 26 points in 34 league games. He then played a further five seasons for the side, fulfilling the role of alternate captain from 2016 to 2020 whilst recording a total of 23 goals, 33 assists and 410 PIMs. Having also contributed to Streatham’s league and cup success in his 2019-20 campaign, Wood knows what it takes to win titles.

Speaking yesterday, Wood, who will wear shirt #22 this season, told us, “Since playing for Streatham in the south for the last 7 years, I have a good idea of what it is like to play for a club with a long and rich history in British ice hockey so, to have the chance to join the Warriors, another club steeped in history and tradition, is an honour.

“I’ve had a number of teammates over the last few seasons who have played in the north league and when I’ve mentioned moving to the North East, they have always said Whitley Bay would suit me perfectly. So here I am. I’m really looking forward to getting on the ice with my new team and skating out in front of the home crowd in September. See you all soon!”

“After a discussion with Adam early this year and meeting with him again in the summer, we feel he will be a great fit and a superb addition to the Warriors,” General Manager Paul Matthews shared. “He has played at a good level throughout his career and his enthusiasm to join our setup was evident from the start. Adam can play forward and defence so this gives David [Longstaff] and I options with the team dynamics. We welcome Adam and hope he settles with his family in the North East. I’m sure our fans will be delighted with another new signing.”

Welcome to Whitley Warriors, Adam!
