Whitley Warriors young forward Callum Queenan has been named in the GB under 18’s squad that will travel to Estonia in March for Division 2 Group A of the World Championships. Callum and his teammates will go up against nations such as Poland, Korea, Croatia, Estonia and Holland in the week long round robin tournament.
Callum shared his thoughts on being selected for the national set up.
“I was really pleased to be selected when I got the email telling me I was in squad I couldn’t quite believe it. I’ve played with a lot of the players in the squad before for either England or at Conference level so I’ll know a lot of the other lads who have been selected.
“(Warriors Head Coach) Simon Leach is on the GB coaching staff so that’ll help me as well as I obviously know him from the Warriors set up. I’m hoping that Simon along with GB Head Coach Martin Grubb can lead us to the gold medal in Tallinn, Estonia during the Championships as that would be brilliant for everyone involved.”
The World Championships are played between the 22nd and 28th of March which means Callum will miss Warriors final game of the 2014/15 regular season when Whitley are set to go up against their local rivals the Billingham Stars on the 22nd March. However it is hoped that Warriors will have qualified for NIHL North play off weekend up in Dumfries, Scotland in April which the youngster would be available for.
