Whitley Warriors have 1 game this weekend a home match up against the Sheffield Senators on Sunday evening (5pm face off) at their Hillheads base on North Tyneside. This will be the first ever game between the 2 teams to be played in Whitley Bay following the Senators promotion into NIHL North Division 1 at the conclusion of the 2014/15 campaign.
Warriors have played the Senators on the road though and David Longstaff’s side were able to skate to a 6-1 success in that encounter at Ice Sheffield. Senators have a number of highly skilled youngsters in their ranks and they will be heading north no doubt eager to get the better of an established Division 1 side such as Whitley.
Warriors are boosted by the news that Callum Watson will be available for this weekend’s game after the in from winger missed last weekend’s away game against the Spartans. Whitley will be without Dean Holland and Alex Lawson though who both remain out of action due to long term injury problems. At this moment in time Warriors have no other injury concerns going into the Senators game.
In recent games youngster Liam Smedley has switched postions from defence to forward and the teenager is set to continue to play up front against Senators having impressed since moving into his new role. Smedley often played his junior hockey as a forward and he has looked at home operating as a winger in senior hockey during his last few match ups.
Sunday’s game gets underway at Warriors usual 5pm face off time and tickets are priced at £8.50 adults and £6.50 juniors with a family ticket available for £24. This weekend’s programme which is priced at£2 includes an interview with Kyle Ross, Bobby’s Dixons column, NIHL North round up and all the usual stats and features you’d find in your match night programme.
