It has been confirmed that forwards Callum Watson and Daniel Murdy alongside netminder Joe Harley will all be part of Whitley’s roster for the 2014/15 campaign. All 3 players were part of Warriors squad last term and return to Hillheads for the upcoming season.
Despite only being 23 this will be the 9th season in succession that Callum Watson has iced for Warriors having made his debut back in the 2006/7 campaign. During his time with Whitley Callum has collated more than 200 points and has lit the lamp on around 100 occasions. The speedy winger will no doubt be looking to add to those tallies this coming season as Simon Leach’s Warriors look to bring success back to Hillheads.
Daniel Murdy also started his career with Whitley in 2006 and iced for Warriors for 3 full seasons before opting to move away from the Bay. The next 3 terms saw Daniel ice for the Northern Stars, Wightlink Raiders and the Solway Sharks before he agreed to return to the maroon and gold uniform of the Warriors last term. Murdy appeared in 24 games during the 2013/14 campaign netting 2 goals and picking up 3 assists during his time out on the ice.
Young goaltender Joe Harley has also been confirmed on Warriors roster next term as one of the clubs 3 netminders alongside senior goalie Richie Lawson and the promising youngster Mark Turnbull. Harley’s first taste of senior action came in the last game of the 2011/12 season when he made it out onto the ice.
The following campaign saw Warriors low on goaltending options and Joe made 11 senior appearances as Whitley battled their way to safety after a run of poor results had seen Warriors dangerously near the foot of the table. Last Season Joe wasn’t able to get as much as time as he only appeared in 2 games though he was regularly part of the first team squad acting as back up goaltender to the experienced netminder Richie Lawson.
Now it has been confirmed that these 3 players are returning to Hillheads Warriors have 3 netminders 6 defenceman and around 4 lines worth of forwards signed up for the coming season giving Whitley’s roster a well balanced look for when competitive action gets underway in NIHL North.
