Whitley Warriors are delighted to announce the re-signing of netminder Dean Bowater for the 2023-24 season.
Bowater started out with Kingston Sharks’ Under 16s side in 2011, remaining with the team for three seasons before moving to Bradford Bulldogs in 2014 where he played 3 games in NIHL 2 further to icing for both Bradford and Sheffield’s Under 16s and Under 18s outfits.
In his 2015-16 campaign, Bowater divided his ice time between the Bulldogs and Hull, and recorded a save percentage of 92% for both Bradford and Kingston’s Under 18s teams. Icing for Hull Jets for a further four seasons, the shot stopper most recently made 15 appearances in the side’s 2019-20 title-winning campaign whilst also featuring in 6 league games with Nottingham Lions in NIHL 1. He joined Whitley Warriors in the 2021-22 season, saving 90.36% of shots over 30 games with over 1,100 minutes on the ice. Last season he missed the first couple of months of the campaign but this did not affect his ability between the pipes, registering an 89% save percentage.
“When I heard Tony was the new head coach, I had to re-sign because I think he’s the guy to take the Warriors and also my own game to the next level,” Bowater told us. “With the experience he will bring, bring on September time!”
Head Coach Tony Hand rates the 24-year-old shot stopper: “Netminding is a key part of a successful team and in Dean I believe we have a goalie get us to the next level.”
