Whitley Warriors have a busy weekend as Simon Leach’s side head to Dumfries to take on the Solway Sharks in a St Andrews Cup game on Saturday evening before coming up against the Sheffield Spartans on home ice on Sunday (5pm face off) at Hillheads on North Tyneside.
Supporters are reminded that Warriors game in Solway on Saturday evening is Ladies night where each attending lady will only have to pay £5 admission, receive a complementary glass of wine while a buffet will also be served. Also one lucky lady will be randomly selected to present the Man of the Match award at the end of the contest. Earlier in the day a ladies game will take place and there will also be an ice hockey taster session for ladies/girls who would like to experience the game. Contact Solway Sharks for further details.
Warriors home game on Sunday is a crucial NIHL North encounter with the Sheffield Spartans. Whitley drew 2 all against Spartans last weekend on the road and Simon Leach and his side will be hoping to get the better of their rivals this weekend. Warriors were without a number of senior players for their trip to Sheffield last time out and Jamie Tinsley, Jordan Barnes, Callum Watson and Scott Cooper should all return to the Whitley squad for this weekend’s match up.
Last season’s top scorer Adam Reynolds is definitely ruled out due to the broken ankle he suffered a fortnight ago against the Sutton Sting while experienced blue liner Rob Wilson is doubtful due to a back problem that has limited his appearances so far this campaign. Daniel Murdy will also play no part in this weekend’s action as the versatile forward has had to leave the Warriors organisation due to a change in his personal circumstances.
Whitley’s long serving forward DJ Good shared his thoughts on last weekend’s performance at Sheffield and looked ahead to this weekend’s games.
“We did well in Sheffield last time out. We were missing 8 senior players but we played very well and got a well deserved point from the game.
“This Sunday we will be at full strength so will be going all out for a win and I expect it to be another feisty affair but with plenty goals.”
Warriors fans are encouraged to come along to Hillheads on Sunday for what should be an exciting game of hockey between 2 talented teams that will face off at Warriors customary 5.00pm face off time.
