Whitley Warriors are delighted to announce the re-signing of forward Jordan Barnes after a period away from the game.
Having played all of his senior ice hockey at Hillheads, 30-year-old power forward Barnes won consecutive league titles with the Warriors between 2009 and 2011 and, as part of Whitley’s on-ice leadership team, his efforts were critical in helping his side to secure league silverware again in 2020.
A demanding physical presence on the ice, Barnes is also proficient in front of the net, notably registering his best points tally of 15 goals and 14 assists in 35 league games during his 2017-18 campaign. Barnes also recorded more than 20 points per season for three consecutive campaigns from 2016 to 2019.
A knee injury stopped him from playing any competitive hockey last season.
“I’m really happy to be back playing”, Barnes told us. “I feel great and want to help the group kick on. Tony and Willie have been really understanding of my situation and this has really helped and allowed me to play hockey again.
“We have a lot of young players and it’s good to try and help out a pass on knowledge – and as always, bring that spark back !”
“I’m delighted to welcome Jordan back,” Head Coach Tony Hand said. “We spoke over the summer and family and work commitments plus injury meant he could not commit at that time. We’ve kept in touch and I was pleased to see him train on Wednesday. He will be a big asset in the changing room and on the ice. He will train this week and we expect to add him to the squad for our home game with Blackburn next week.”
Barnes, who has traditionally worn the number 17 shirt, will now wear number 58, the same number his younger brother Jacob wears in the juniors. His shirts are available immediately for Own and Loan and Player Sponsorship.
Welcome back to Warriors, Jordan!
