Whitley Warriors held their end of season presentation night recently following the 2014/15 NIHL North Division 1 campaign. The awards were presented by former Warrior David Longstaff who has had an illustrious career playing for a number of the top clubs in the UK as well as having spells on the continent plying his trade in both Sweden and Switzerland.
Warriors alternate captain Dean Holland was rewarded for an excellent season as he picked up awards for Most Valuable Player, Best forward and Player’s Player of the year. This was Dean’s first year back in NIHL North hockey after a spell with the Guildford Flames in the English Premier League and he was able to enjoy a superb season in the maroon, white and gold of Warriors.
Other players to receive accolades included blue liner Daniel Pye who was named Best Defenceman, up and coming netminder Mark Turnbull who claimed the Most Improved Player Award and GB under 18 forward Callum Queenan who was chosen as Warriors Best Young Player.
There was also a Coach’s Award chosen by Warriors coaching team of outgoing Head Coach Simon Leach and his assistant Dave Holland. Alex Lawson and Martin Crammond shared the award for their industrious hard working displays throughout the entirety of the campaign.
Warriors now have the summer off before the 2015/16 campaign gets underway in mid to late August. Whitley Warriors updates will be posted throughout the close season on the clubs website.
