Whitley Warriors are pleased to announce that forwards Ben Richards and Callum Watson along with young blue liner Liam Smedley will all be part of the clubs roster for the forthcoming season. All 3 players appeared for Whitley last campaign as Warriors ended the term in 6th position in NIHL North Division 1.
Ben Richards played in the majority of Warriors games last season operating as a winger for the Tynesiders and he was able to pick up a total of 12 points from the 23 games he took to the ice in. Ben has now been part of the Warriors set up for the last 3 seasons and the youngster spoke about how he saw the coming campaign for himself and his side.
“The upcoming season is going to be a fresh start for the Whitley Warriors, we’ve been given a chance to really show what we can do. We’ve signed players that are going to bring so much to this team and bring the most out of every player.
“With Lobby (David Longstaff) coaching this year I think it’s going to be a great experience playing for him and possibly even with him. I would like to see us make playoffs and I’ll bring my best to every game this season.”
Callum Watson will also be upfront for Warriors next term as the experienced winger will look to use his speed and skill to great affect against the other NIHL North sides in Division1. Callum netted 10 goals last term which is solid points production for the 23 yea r old and he will no doubt be hoping to better that tally this term.
Young defenceman Liam Smedley has also been confirmed on Warriors squad for the 2015/16 season. Liam will combine playing junior hockey along with icing for the senior team. The teenage blue liner saw a significant amount of ice team last season and Liam proved that he could cope with all the challenges that come along with playing senior hockey on a regular basis.
Warriors are hopeful that they will be able to announce further additions to their roster in the coming weeks as player/coach David Longstaff continues to assemble his roster of players for the 2015/16 season.
