Whitley Warriors are delighted to welcome back versatile Canadian and fan favourite Phil Edgar for the upcoming campaign.
From Kitchener, Ontario, 31-year-old Edgar started out in his hometown’s junior system, icing for the Rangers’ Under 16s and Under 18s sides before progressing to play for Kitchener Dutchmen in the GOJHL in his 2009-10 season.
After playing for Kitchener for two further seasons, accumulating a total of 67 points in 87 league games and finishing his 2011-12 season as the side’s top points scorer, Edgar embarked on three seasons in the EOJHL with Ottawa West Golden Knights where he fulfilled the role of alternate captain in his third season, contributing 70 goals and a further 67 assists in 111 league games.
A move to Whitley Warriors from the University of Waterloo in 2017 then saw Edgar continue his excellent points production, with 56 points from 34 games in his first season on Tyneside. A productive on-ice relationship with Dean Holland saw the pair terrorise defences around the league. Despite moving back to Canada at the end of the 2022-23 season, Edgar returned to Whitley Bay in 2024, much to the joy of the Whitley faithful. As he heads into his eighth season at Warriors he is confident for the season ahead.
“The SNL should be a fun new challenge, it’s always nice to score on new teams,” he said. “Elbows up Warriors!”
“Great to have Phil back on board for the new season,” Head Coach Tony Hand said. “He was our top points scorer last year and we hope he continues that trend.”
