Whitley Warriors are delighted to announce that talented defenceman Matty McDonald will be returning to the club for the upcoming season.
Fan favourite McDonald, 25, heads into his fifth season on the Whitley blue line after having previously divided his time between the Braves and the Renegades, captaining the latter in 2019-20. In his first season for Whitley Warriors, he impressed the coaches and fans alike and was rewarded for his efforts by receiving the Most Improved Player award for 2021-22. The season after he was awarded the Players’ Player award.
Matty signed up at the beginning of last season but personal circumstances required a move away from the region meaning he was unable to play the majority of the 2024-25 campaign. As it stands, he will not be returning to the area until the end of September at the earliest but is sure to please fans when he moves back.
“I’m excited to be back with the club after a year away and can’t wait to get started,” Matty said. “We have a strong squad this year and I’m looking forward to playing in a new league and facing a new challenge. See you all soon!”
“I’m delighted that Matty is coming back to the area and will play for us once more,” Head Coach Tony Hand told us. “Matty is calm on the puck and will really strengthen our D.”
