Warriors take on the Sutton Sting on home ice this Sunday (face off 5pm) at Hillheads Ice Rink in Whitley Bay. Whitley have started the season off in superb form and sit top of the NIHL North Division 1 with 9 points from the 5 league games they have played in to date.
Sutton have played in 3 league games going down to a defeat against current League Champions the Blackburn Hawks and picking up a victory and a defeat in a double header of games with the Sheffield Spartans last weekend.
Sting have retained the vast majority of their squad from last season so they have the likes of talented netminder Dmitri Zimzodra, experienced blue liners James Goodman and Ryan Johnson and sniper Jamie Spurr in their squad. Sting have also added import forward Sergevs Jegorovs to their roster this term and the Latvian has already been amongst the points for his new side as he recorded 3 points in Suttons 7-5 success against Spartans.
Warriors summer signing Shaun Kippin shared his views on this weekend’s game and being back in the Warriors dressing room.
“To be honest I’ve never played Sutton, I left Warriors the year they joined the league. I’ve played against their netminder though Dimitiri Zimondra and he’s a great goalie, one of the best in the league in my opinion. Their new import Sergevs Jegorovs will be their danger man especially on the powerplay he will be the one to watch.
“I’ve really enjoying being back on the ice with the Warriors, there is a really good atmosphere around the changing room at the moment. We’ve got a tough month ahead of us but we’re taking it one game at a time and we will see where that takes us.”
Shaun along with the rest of the Warriors will be in action this Sunday night when the Sting visit Tyneside tickets are priced at £8.50 for adults, £6.50 for children while a family ticket can be bought for £24 which gives admission to 2 adults and 2 children.
This weekend’s match night programme includes an extended interview with defenceman Josh Maddock, the NIHL North round up, a look at the opposition as well as the hockey quiz and all the usual features and statistics you find in the Warriors programme.
