Whitley Warriors teenage forward Callum Queenan has been selected by England Under 19’s for their clash with Scotland at Ice Sheffield in late April. Callum has represented Great Britain Under 18’s in the past and the youngster will no doubt be hoping to be part of the GB under 20’s set up next year.
Callum is currently out of action with a shoulder injury and will not ice in Warriors game this weekend when Whitley face off against the Billingham Stars however the young forward is hoping to feature in the end of season NIHL North Championship play offs which would be ideal preparation for the England v Scotland international game.
Callum shared his reaction to being selected for the England squad.
“I’m stoked to be selected to represent England under 19s against Scotland I think the game will be very close because I know a couple of the Scottish lads and they very skilful but we have a lot of skilful players ourselves.
“I know a lot of lads on the team as I’ve been though all the England development with them and I am really good friends with a lot of them and can’t wait to see them again. Looking at who is playing for England we have a strong team and it will be a really good game to watch. I obviously think we can win it.”
Warriors have a number of other players missing this weekend as the likes of Alex Lawson, Scott Cooper and Stu Tomlinson are ruled out due to long term injuries while import Andre Payette is serving the final game of his 3 game suspension. Whitley player/coach David Longstaff and his assistant Dave Holland will make use of their large pool of players on Sunday evening at Billingham when the last NIHL North Division 1 Tyne Tees derby takes place.
Whitley look set to welcome Jordan Barnes back into their line up for the game with Stars as the popular forward missed Warriors trip to Solihull last weekend and his versatility gives Warriors extended cover in both offensive and defensive positions.
