Good and Glasby sign up for 2018-19

Lawson Glasby and DJ Good

Whitley Warriors are delighted to announce that long-serving forward DJ Good and returnee Lawson Glasby will both be part of the roster next season.

DJ Good, 33, has been a regular feature in the Whitley Warriors roster since 2001-02, coming through the ranks at Whitley Bay Junior Ice Hockey Club and making two appearances over two seasons previously. He has played for Warriors every season since except for a season at Edinburgh Capitals in the SNL in the mid 00s. DJ represented Great Britain at Under 18, England at Under 20 and also played four games for Newcastle Vipers in the Elite League in 2010-11. He captained Warriors in 2012-13 and 2013-14 and now enters his eighteenth season in the maroon and gold.

21-year-old Lawson Glasby has just completed a season in the United States with Clarkson University of the American Collegiate Hockey Association Division 2. Defenceman Lawson is originally from Worksop in Nottinghamshire and started his hockey career with Sutton Sting, captaining Sting’s Under 18 side and making thirteen appearances for the senior team before moving to Bradford Bulldogs. A move up north in 2015 saw Lawson play for Northumbria Kings university team and Billingham Stars Under 20s before signing for Whitley Warriors in 2016-17.

Lawson, who is also a qualified linesman, spoke of his time abroad: “I took a year out of university to study abroad in the US, where I also managed to play some hockey. A lot of the players there were very surprised to have found themselves on a team with a British player but it was a fantastic experience and I felt playing in a different country really helped to enhance my understanding of the game. I met some great players who taught me a lot.

“I am very grateful to have been given the opportunity of playing in Whitley again this season,” he continued. “There have been some big changes in the league structure since I last played in the NIHL so it will be great to see how the standard of hockey has improved. I think that any team in this league is beatable on home ice and I am hoping we will have a season to be proud of.

“Whitley are a team who always work really hard and skate hard in games and in training and I’m looking forward to playing under coach David Longstaff for another season.”

Welcome back DJ and Lawson!
