Whitley Warriors only game this coming weekend sees Simon Leach’s side travel down to Ice Sheffield on Sunday afternoon to take on the Sutton Sting (face off 4.30pm) in a NIHL North Moralee Conference match up. Whitley have no new injury concerns following last weekend’s victory over Sting on home ice so Warriors only possible absentee is blue liner Ross Hanlon who has been struggling of late with a knee injury.
Warriors picked up a narrow 4-3 victory over Sutton last Sunday thanks to goals from Adam Reynolds (2), Karl Culley and DJ Good. Adam Reynolds had a superb game as he was involved in all of Warriors goals against Sting and he will no doubt be eager to carry his recent impressive form into the contest on Sunday.
Whitley currently occupy 4th position in their Conference with a total of 9 points from the 6 games they have played so far this season. Only a solitary point separates the top 4 teams in the league though as Billingham and Solway are both joint top with 10 points with Whitley and Sheffield just a point behind the early season pace setters.
Sutton have surprisingly struggled for form so far this campaign and Sting lie 7th in the table with just a solitary victory from the 5 league games they have taken to the ice in. Their success was a 12-6 home success over strugglers the Telford Titans back in September.
Whitley skipper DJ Good shared his thoughts on Warriors trip south to take on the Sting on Sunday.
“
We are all up for the game at the weekend and are really looking forward to it. Last Sunday was a close game but one that we deserved to win so playing them away from home is going to be a good test to see how we have developed as a team.
“We need to start getting wins from our away games but Sutton need to get there season back on track which means that both teams will be going all out for the points on offer. The league is so tight at the minute so we just have to keep winning and keep improving each week”.
Warriors fans are reminded that Whitley’s next home game is on Sunday 3rd November (face off 5pm) when Whitley take on the Manchester Minotaurs in what should be a highly competitive game given the 2 sides have already played out a 5-5 draw this campaign.
