Whitley Warriors face the Manchester Minotaurs in another vitally important game as Simon Leach’s side look to qualify for the end of season play off weekend. Warriors are currently 1 point and 1 place below the final play off spot (which the Sutton Sting occupy) meaning all 3 of Whitley’s remaining games between now and the end of the regular season are hugely important match ups for the club.
So far this season Warriors have taken on Minotaurs on 2 occasions, the sides drew 5 all in October last year in the north west before Whitley claimed an impressive 6-1 victory on home ice a month later. Manchester’s main danger man is import forward Lukas Zeman who leads the leagues scoring with 55 points which has included 41 goals from the 24 games he has iced in.
Warriors Coach Simon Leach gave his opinions on this coming weekend’s clash with Manchester.
“The Manchester game is another cup final for us, we know we just have to win our remaining games and see how Sutton do.
“We can’t be worrying about what games Sutton win, we’ve just got to maintain the pressure on them by winning games.
“Dan Harris will be back for the Minotuars game which will be a bonus for all the lads, a couple of our lads were hurting a little bit after last weekend’s game so we’ve given them a little bit of time off so they can be fully fit for this weekend and the game with Manchester.”
Whitley’s home clash with Manchester is on Sunday evening at the normal face off time of 5pm. Warriors now only have 2 Conference games left at home this season and Whitley fans are encouraged to come out and support their club in great numbers as the team give all they’ve got to qualify for the end of season play offs.
Warriors attendances have been growing over the course of the campaign and the players have had great support from the fans in recent games as large crowds have come along to Hillheads for match ups with the Sutton Sting and Blackburn Hawks. A passionate vocal support does really help the players out on the ice as many of the roster have commented on just what a difference the home crowd can make to a game at Hillheads.
