Whitley Warriors Ice Hockey Club is delighted to announce that David Longstaff will again be player/coach for the 2019-20 season.

Longstaff has had an illustrious playing career. After making his senior Whitley debut in 1989-90, he played at the highest level of the game both in the UK and abroad, playing for Great Britain 118 times at various age levels and becoming the first player to reach 100 caps.

In his first season as Warriors coach, he took the team to second place in the league and the semi-final of the playoffs. David has been at the helm since then, producing a Warriors team year after year of mostly local lads playing for the shirt. Last season he guided Whitley to a respectable fifth place in the league against impressive opposition and the playoff semi-finals, beating Solway Sharks 6-1 on their own ice in the process.

“It’s great to be back for another season with Whitley Warriors,” David said. “We had a good season last year despite a shaky start and if we continue to play in the same way we know we can compete.”
