Whitley Warriors defensive resources have been bolstered with the signing of Alex Lawson who previously briefly iced for Warriors back in the 2012/13 season. Lawson has not played competitive hockey since his spell with Warriors due to personal circumstances however Alex has a wealth of ENL/NIHL experience to call upon as the 22 year old has played over 60 games for a number of sides including Warriors, Billingham/Northern Stars and the ENL Vipers.
Alex should be able to settle into the Whitley roster easily as his older brother Richie is also currently part of the Warriors set up. The capture of Lawson could also give Warriors Coach Simon Leach flexibility out on the ice as the youngster can also operate as a forward if the club require extra depth offensively.
Alex shared his thoughts on signing again for Warriors
“I’m very happy to be returning to the ice for the 2014/15 season. The team is looking very strong this year and hopefully we are able to build upon last season’s good performance. I can see the team being very successful this coming season.”
Whitley Coach Simon Leach also spoke of his latest signing and how he though Alex would fit into the Warriors roster.
“We are very happy to welcome Alex back into the squad, he had to cut his time short in his previous spell with Warriors due to work and University commitments. Alex is looking forward to getting back on the ice without the pressure of the latter.
“Alex will come into the squad as a defenceman and will help fill the void left by Christian Johnson, it brings our defensive quota to 4 and we feel very happy overall on how things are progressing both on and off the ice so far this summer.#
“I am currently looking to maybe add 1 or 2 more new faces to the squad before we start the action in September as we look to try and improve on last season’s position in the table.”
Whitley fans are encouraged to keep their eyes peeled for further exciting news in the coming weeks as Warriors continue to build for the coming campaign.
