Netminder Richie Lawson has scooped up the EIHA’s NIHL North 1 Player of the Month award for February after being shortlisted alongside Solway Sharks’ Slovakian left winger Peter Gápa and Solihull Barons’ Thomas Soar.

Lawson put in some standout performances between the pipes throughout February which aided Whitley’s progress in their quest for silverware, the Warriors claiming the NIHL North 1 league title against Solihull Barons on the 1st March. With a save percentage of 91.52% so far, Lawson assisted his team’s success in their double header against title rivals Solway Sharks at the beginning of February, remained resolute in a 7-4 win over Solihull Barons, triumphed in a 6-3 derby victory over Billingham Stars and pulled off some incredible saves against close competition Murrayfield Racers in a highly entertaining NIHL North Cup final to ensure the game was pushed into overtime.

As Whitley’s starting shot stopper, Richie’s reliability in net has undoubtedly facilitated his team’s league success and everyone at Whitley Warriors would like to congratulate him on his accomplishment.
