Rolands Adds Grit to Whitley’s Defensive Unit

Whitley Warriors are delighted to announce the re-signing of skilled Latvian defenceman Rolands Gritāns.

Heading into his third season at Hillheads, 30-year-old blue liner Gritāns brings with him a vast amount of experience having played ice hockey in Canada, Sweden, Russia, Kazakhstan and France further to representing Latvia between 2008 and 2011, earning himself a gold medal with Latvia’s Under 18s side at the World Junior Championships in the process.

After signing for the Warriors in 2018, powerful ‘D’ man Gritāns contributed 6 goals and 11 assists in 25 league games and continued to go from strength to strength to finish Whitley’s 2019-20 campaign as the side’s highest points scoring defenceman with an impressive 11 goals and 22 assists in 23 league games.

Reflecting on his decision to sign for the Warriors for their upcoming campaign, Gritāns told us, “It’s a great feeling after a long break to go out on the ice again. I hope the fans also missed us and will come to support us!”
