Whitley Warriors are delighted to announce the signing of 21-year-old defenceman Matty McDonald as he makes the step up to senior ice hockey this season.
McDonald divided his ice time between the Braves and the Renegades from 2016 to 2018 and was made captain of the former in his second campaign, scoring 14 goals and 9 assists in 18 league games to finish the season as his side’s fourth highest points scorer.
McDonald, who will wear shirt #5 for the Warriors, then played two further seasons for the Renegades and captained the team in his 2019-20 campaign during which he contributed 5 points in 13 league games.
“I’m very happy to join the Warriors and I’m looking forward to a good season ahead in front of the fans,” McDonald told us yesterday. “I’m excited to play at this level and learn from the experienced lads as well as re-joining some teammates from juniors. I can’t wait to get started!”
“Matty’s progression over the last year has been immense,” General Manager Paul Matthews informed us when speaking of Whitley’s new recruit. “David and I feel he can become a regular top defenceman for the Warriors for years to come. His attitude and skill level are evident. I’m sure our fans will be excited to see Matty make his senior debut next month.”
Welcome to Whitley Warriors, Matty!
