Whitley Warriors are delighted to announce that defenceman Matty McDonald will be wearing the Maroon and Gold in Warriors’ 60th anniversary season.
McDonald, 24, heads into his fourth season on the Whitley blue line after having previously divided his time between the Braves and the Renegades, captaining the latter in 2019-20. In his first season for Whitley Warriors, he impressed the coaches and fans alike and was rewarded for his efforts by receiving the Most Improved Player award for 2021-22. Last season he was awarded the Players’ Player award at the Presentation Night in April.
“I enjoyed last season despite the ups and downs,” Matty said yesterday. “I’m really looking forward to this season and with a bit more consistency there’s no reason why we can’t be challenging at the top.”
“I’m glad Matty is coming back again,” Head Coach Tony Hand told us. “He had a solid season in defence. I think he was one of our most consistent players, he’s still young and will develop more and have a great season this year.”
Welcome back Matty!
