Next weekend’s game against Leeds Knights will see the Warriors’ annual Teddy Toss event take place. We know it’s a little earlier than usual this year, but hopefully this will allow us a little more time to distribute the teddies.
Previous Teddy Toss events have been hugely successful, with a number of local charities benefiting. We hope our kind and generous supporters will get behind this worthy cause once again this year.
The chosen charity for this year’s event is St Anthony Youth Education and Support (SAYES)Anthony Youth Education and Support (SAYES), known locally as ‘the Bostey’. A charity which has been at the heart of the community in Walker, for over 60 years.
Working with over 100 young people and their families, its dedicated team provide a range of weekly drop-in sessions, with a packed programme of activities taking place in its new purpose-built centre.
The Bostey aims to create an environment where young people can feel safe and take part in a wide range of activities that help them to build new skills and widen their horizons.
“Youth clubs aren’t just about a room with a pool table, we offer our users the chance to learn new skills, with everything from cooking to photography. We arrange museum visits and outdoor activity sessions and provide support such as managing mental health.”
Knowledgeable and experienced staff provide one-to-one support, to help young people work through any issues they may face. The team have also developed strong and trusted relationships in the community and their support extends to whole families in times of need.
The usual conditions apply for this year’s Teddy Toss. Please make sure your cuddly toy is new and is wrapped in cling film, or sealed in a plastic bag to protect it from the moisture from the ice.
When Whitley score their first goal, AIR THE BEAR!!!
If there’s no Warriors goal by the end of the first period, throw your bear at the end of period buzzer.
