Whitley Warriors take on the Sheffield Spartans this weekend in a NIHL North Division 1 league encounter on home ice at Hillheads Ice Rink on North Tyneside in a game that faces off at 5pm on Sunday evening.
Warriors have a number of injuries to contend with as the likes of Dean Holland, Dan Pye and Alex Lawson are set to miss out this weekend while up and coming youngster Kyle Ross is 50/50 for the Spartans match up having picked up an injury in training during the week.
Whitley will have GB under 20 call up Callum Queenan available to them for the Spartans match up. Callum travelled down to the East Midlands during the week to take part in the under 20’s training camp and play in a warm up game against NIHL North Division 2 side the Nottingham Lions. Callum will be hoping to continue his impressive form for Warriors when he gets out onto the ice on Sunday evening and add to the 9 points he has picked up so far this term in club hockey.
Spartans currently sit 3 places and 6 points below Warriors in the NIHL North Division 1 table just outside of the championship play off places. Martin White’s side have picked up a number of impressive results this season though and with players such as Ollie Barron, Stuart Brittle, David Pyatt and Brandon Stones in their ranks they will provide Whitley with an extremely tough test when the puck drops on Sunday.
Tickets for the game can be bought on the door and are priced at £8.50 for adults and £6.50 for children while a family ticket (2 adults and 2 children) for £24 is also available. It would be great to see another healthy crowd at Hillheads for what promises to be a superb game of hockey between 2 well matched sides.
