Whitley Warriors moved to the top of the table in NIHL North Division 1 with a 4-3 victory away in Shropshire against the talented Telford Tigers on Saturday evening. Warriors were captained by veteran import Andre Payette as regular skipper Jamie Tinsley was ruled out of the trip due to injury while Dean Holland and Alex Lawson were also both still on the sidelines.
Warriors goals in the match up came from Jordan Barnes, Callum Queenan, David Longstaff and Dan Pye. Dan Pye netted the game winning goal on the powerplay with 58 minutes and 27 seconds on the clock to the delight of the Warriors bench and Whitley were able to hold out to claim the 2 points on offer and move ahead of the Blackburn Hawks in the league standings.
Whitley are next in action on Sunday evening when Warriors head to Teesside to take on the Billingham Stars in another NIHL North league match up. The game gets underway at 6.30pm at the Billingham Forum where David Longstaff’s side will be hoping to pick up their 11th victory of the 2015/16 campaign. Warriors are back in action at Hillheads on Sunday December 6th (face off 5pm) when Whitley take on the Blackburn Hawks in what should be a superb match up between the 2 sides battling it out for top spot in NIHL North Division 1.
