Whitley Warriors go into this weekend’s game against the Blackburn Hawks with a fully fit roster. Warriors currently occupy the final play off place in the NIHL North Moralee Conference standings and with just 4 games remaining for Simon Leach’s side in the regular season every match up between now and the end of the campaign is of great significance.
Blackburn have been in superb form of late as Hawks have won 12 out of their last 14 contests in all competitions with only 1 loss coming in that sequence of games. Hawks last trip to the north east saw them demolish the Billingham Stars 9-1 in a Conference match up so Warriors will have to be their best on Sunday evening to prevent Hawks talented offensive units from creating too many genuine scoring opportunities.
Warriors and Blackburn have faced each other 3 times so far this term with home advantage being the telling factor to date as Hawks have picked up 2 victories on their own ice while Whitley have 1 success against Blackburn a nail biting 4-3 win at Hillheads where Warriors came from 3-0 down late on to snatch a victory in the final stages of the game.
Whitley Coach Simon Leach shared his views on Sunday evening’s game.
“We will be going into the Blackburn game with a full side again and we’ve got a points target we’ve got to get to and we are aiming for that.
“We’ve got back into training this week for the game and we’ll be well prepared come Sunday.
“We are going to take it one night at a time, make sure we are professional about it, go out for the win and we are aiming to take the 2 points that are on offer.”
Warriors game against the Blackburn Hawks is on Sunday night at Hillheads Ice Rink in Whitley Bay at the normal face off time of 5pm and with Whitley battling it out to clinch a play off spot Warriors fans are encouraged to come along to the rink in great numbers and get behind their local side.
