Whitley Warriors are delighted to announce that Latvian defenceman Rolands Gritāns has agreed to another season at Hillheads.
Rolands, 28, played in the French top division before joining Whitley Warriors last season and has great experience, icing in Sweden, Kazakhstan and Russia. He also represented Latvia at the World Junior Championships in the top division. The 6’ 2” Latvian added some steel and stability to our defensive unit last year and was an instant hit with the fans.
“I am very happy to stay here in England,” Rolands told us yesterday. “I am settled here I have a job and a house and all my family are here now as well.”
He went on to speak about Warriors and UK hockey: “The team is shaping up well and we have the best fans in the league, it’s clear to see. I understand the hockey more now and what is expected of me as I had no experience in England before. David Longstaff has helped me solve questions and both he and Paul Matthews have helped me very much and are improving me as a person and as a player.
“I hope this season is going to be great for the Warriors.”
General Manager Paul Matthews said, “Roly has fantastic potential he has all the skills to be a top player in this league. He came last season with a great pedigree and great stats. He’s returning this year knowing the culture and environment of living and playing in England now which will benefit the Warriors much more.
“Roly has a desire to do well and to prove to people he is a standout player. Playing consistently throughout the season, he should flourish in this new league structure. We are delighted to have Roly back.”
Welcome back Roly!
