Whitley Warriors are set to open 2014 with an action packed weekend as Simon Leach’s side get back onto the ice with a double header of games after a brief break from competitive action over the Christmas and New Year period. Warriors thank fans for their support but try to quash fears

Whitley Warriors would like to thank all of its supporters and members of the general public who have shown their support in favour of Whitley’s home ice rink Hillheads remaining open for the significant future following reports that the land the rink sits on may be earmarked for development. However it does have to be remembered that the council are currently looking at over 100 sites on North Tyneside that could be re-developed and the Hillheads area (where the rink is situated is just one of these sites). Whitley Warriors travelled down to Ice Sheffield on Saturday afternoon to take on the Sheffield Spartans in NIHL North Moralee Conference action. Warriors had a strong roster of players available for the contest as almost all senior players travelled to Yorkshire for the clubs last game in 2013. Sting narrowly defeat Warriors on Sunday evening in Sheffield

Whitley Warriors made the short journey south to Ice Sheffield to take on the Sutton Sting on Sunday afternoon. Warriors were able to welcome Tommy Ralph, Richie Lawson and Jamie Tinsley all back into their line up after the trio missed last weekend’s home game against the Blackburn Hawks.  Young goaltender Mark Turnbull was selected to start the game in net after impressing on his full senior debut last weekend against the Blackburn Hawks with Richie Lawson acting as Warriors back up netminder.
