Whitley Warriors are delighted to announce the re-signing of forward Jay Lucas for the 2023-24 season.

19-year-old forward Jay Lucas came through Billingham’s junior system before joining Whitley Under 18s and Under 20s in 2019-20, where he was named England U18 North Most Penalty Minutes, a title also previously held by former Whitley Warriors Liam Smedley and Tom Ralph.

A late addition to the roster last season, Lucas has not recreated his haul of penalty minute at senior level, recording only 10 minutes in penalties in 2022-23, with 2 assists for the young forward also on the board.

“I’m lucky to have had the opportunity to play on a team with such elite statuses,” Lucas said yesterday. “But having another under someone who changed the meaning of hockey in the UK, I see myself and the team pushing and aiming to excel a lot more.”

Head Coach Tony Hand sees potential in Lucas. “Jay is a young player I look forward to working with and try and help bring the best out of him,” he told us.

Whitley Warriors are actively seeking sponsors for the upcoming season. Please visit our Sponsorship page to see the options available and complete the form to register your interest.
