Whitley Warriors have no fixtures this coming weekend which is the last thing the club and Head Coach Simon Leach wanted after Warriors took 3 points from their games against the Manchester Minotaurs and Telford Titans last weekend. Whitley currently occupy 2nd place in the NIHL North standings and ideally Warriors would have been back in action this weekend to continue their progress out on the ice.
However Whitley’s break away from competitive action could at least mean that new signing Ryan Sample could well be match fit for the clubs next game at home to Sutton Sting on Sunday October 20th (face off 5pm) at Hillheads Ice Rink.
Head Coach Simon Leach reflected on Warriors free weekend.
“We’ve got a break again now as we’ve no games this weekend which isn’t ideal but at least it gives Ryan Sample a chance of being fit for our next match up. Ryan is working away in Scotland at the minute however he’s going to be training up there so we’ll keep in touch with him and and see how he’s doing”.
Ryan is itching to get back into action after 2 years away from competitive hockey and commented that the other sides in the NIHL North Moralee Conference should ‘expect everything’ once he returns to the ice in the maroon and gold of Warriors.
Warriors hope to have a full roster to chose from for the home game against Sutton on the 20th October. However if Ryan is fit to take to the ice against the Sting and no other injuries arise Whitley Head Coach Simon Leach could have a tough decision to make as Whitley will have to leave out one of the players who has been part of Warriors roster during the early stages of the campaign to allow Ryan a place on the teamsheet as Whitley have recently been playing with the maximum 22 man roster.
