Whitley Warriors are thrilled to announce the signing of defenceman and former Hull Pirate Steven Chalmers for the 2021-22 campaign.
After playing ice hockey for OHA’s Under 18s AAA side in Canada, Chalmers returned to Britain in 2010 to make his senior debut in the Elite League with Braehead Clan, playing 46 games, whilst also icing in 5 games for Team GB’s Under 20s outfit at the World Junior Championships where he collected a bronze medal.
He made the switch to Dundee Stars in the season which followed, further to representing Team GB’s Under 20s side for a second time, and then embarked on four seasons with EIHL side Coventry Blaze from 2012, featuring in 135 league games in total and chipping in with 7 goals and 5 assists.
After taking a break from the sport between 2016 and 2018, Chalmers enjoyed some ice time in Sweden’s Division 2 and Division 3 with HC Flyers and Nora HC respectively before returning to Britain to play for Hull Pirates in the NIHL where he accumulated 11 points in 35 league games during their 2019-20 campaign.
On making the decision to join the Warriors, 28-year-old Chalmers, who will wear shirt #28 this season, told us, “This last year has been tough for everyone so it will be great to get back to playing again. I am now based in the North East and I’m excited for the opportunity to play for Whitley.”
“After contacting Steve early on this year, we are excited to have a player of his calibre on our roster,” General Manager Paul Matthews shared. “He has played a high level of hockey throughout his career and, at 28 years old, he is at a peak age. He has mixed well with all of the lads and we’re looking forward to him wearing a Warriors’ jersey this season.”
Welcome to Whitley Warriors, Steven!
