Whitley Warriors can today announce that last year’s top points scorer and MVP Ben Campbell will return to the roster for 2019-20.
Talented winger Ben started his hockey career at Whitley Bay, coming through the ranks of the junior club before making his Warriors debut in 2002-03. Aged just 19, he signed for Newcastle Vipers, icing for their ENL and EIHL sides. Ben played 248 EIHL games for the Vipers over four seasons. In 2009-10 Ben signed for Guildford Flames of the then EPL and spent eight seasons there, scoring a stunning 345 points on the way.
Last season he returned to Whitley Warriors after a move back to the north east, scoring a stunning 58 goals with 31 assists from 38 games, winning the coveted Hillheads Player of the Year award and being named Pro Hockey News’s NIHL North 1 Player of the Year.
“I’m happy to be back with Whitley Warriors for another season,” Ben said. “It was great to join up with the team again last season – I grew up playing with a lot of the lads – and I’m looking forward to helping Warriors challenge for a good league position next season.”
“We are absolutely delighted to be securing Ben for the season ahead,” General Manager Paul Matthews told us. “We have managed to fend off teams in other leagues for his signature. I am sure everyone will be delighted and we believe Ben’s speed and fitness levels will drive the team forward again this season.”
Welcome back Ben!
